Publishers Weekly reports that more than 200 retailers were urged to take a stronger stand against the behemoth that is Amazon. "It’s a matter of survival and a quality-of-life issue for entire communities," explained Carol Besse, co-owner of Carmichael’s Books in Louisville, Kent., and outgoing board president of the Great Lakes Independent Booksellers Association. She called for a “grassroots effort to re-educate every author” who visits independents, asking them to disable links to Amazon.com on their Web sites.
